Steel Structure and Structural Engineering

Engineering the structural integrity behind Malaysia’s bridges, buildings, and infrastructure.

Structural Engineering for Malaysia's Built Environment

Twin Tower, Malaysia

Structural engineering has been a foundational discipline within Emenea Engineering Services since our founding. Our structural practice covers the full spectrum of steel and reinforced concrete design — from complex transportation infrastructure such as bridges and interchanges, through high-rise residential and institutional buildings, to specialist structures such as curved-tubular steel roof trusses and industrial pylons. Our capability extends beyond new design into structural assessment, rehabilitation, and refurbishment of existing structures across their operational lifespan.

Our structural engineering team is led by senior principals with decades of first-hand experience on the design of major Malaysian and international bridges, highways, and buildings. This depth is complemented by mid-career and specialist engineers who bring contemporary technical training, digital design capability, and specialist knowledge across steel design, reinforced concrete, and composite construction. Together, our team delivers structural solutions that combine engineering excellence with buildability, durability, and long-term performance.

Whether the requirement is a new-build structural design, an Independent Checking Consultant appointment, a rehabilitation of an existing structure, or a specialist audit, Emenea brings the same standards of technical rigour and delivery discipline to every structural engineering commission.

Structural Capabilities

Structural Engineering

Our structural engineering service covers the full range of concrete and steel structural design and consultancy requirements. Core capabilities include:

01.

Bridges

Structural design of highway bridges, railway bridges, pedestrian bridges, and specialist crossings including cable-stayed bridges and swing bridges. Our bridge portfolio spans small-scale culvert crossings to major mega-structures such as the 3.45 km Bukit Merah Marine Viaduct and the 282-metre Prai River Swing Bridge.

02.

Interchanges

Structural design for grade-separated interchanges, flyovers, and complex highway junctions, including segmental box girder viaducts and post-tensioned concrete structures.

03.

Buildings

Structural design for the full range of building types including hospitals, education campuses, high-rise residential apartments, institutional buildings, industrial facilities, mosques, sports complexes, and multi-storey offices.

04.

Factories and Industrial Structures

Structural design for industrial buildings, warehouses, factory extensions, and specialist industrial facilities, addressing the specific loading, spanning, and durability requirements of industrial environments.

05.

Basements and Below-Ground Structures

Structural design of basement structures, retaining systems, and below-ground infrastructure, coordinated with our geotechnical capability for integrated substructure solutions.

06.

Reinforced Concrete Walls, Pylons and Specialist Structures

Design of reinforced concrete retaining walls, load-bearing walls, and specialist RC wall. Design of architectural pylons, feature structures, gantry supports. Our steel structure portfolio includes projects such as the curved-tubular steel roof trusses for Petronas’s petrol pump station and commercial centre in Ampang.

Technical Approach and Design Philosophy

Our structural engineering practice is grounded in the following principles:

Our structural designs conform to Malaysian design codes, Eurocode standards where applicable, British Standards for legacy assets, and internationally recognised industry practices. Where multiple codes apply, we design to the most stringent applicable requirement.

All structural designs are supported by rigorous analytical modelling using industry-standard structural analysis software. Complex structures receive additional peer review and, where appropriate, independent verification.

Structural designs are developed in continuous dialogue with buildability considerations — available materials, contractor capability, construction sequencing, and prevailing methods of work in Malaysia.

Every structural design considers the long-term durability requirements of its intended environment, including exposure to Malaysian climate conditions, marine environments where applicable, and expected service life.

Our designs incorporate appropriate safety factors and structural redundancy to protect against extreme loading events, material degradation over time, and unforeseen site conditions.

Structural designs are coordinated from the outset with architectural, civil, geotechnical, and building services requirements, eliminating late-stage design conflicts and ensuring cohesive project delivery.

Ipoh–Padang Besar Electrified Double Track — Bridges and Viaducts

Structural engineering for over 200 bridges and pedestrian crossings, together with major viaducts including the 3.45 km Bukit Merah Marine Viaduct (231 piers) and the 28.97 km Simpang Ampat–Bukit Merah Land Viaduct (1,934 piers). Delivered as part of the RM12.485 billion PMC role in the KSET consortium.
